News I heard the doctor on the TV today say he "googled" Milk Thistle and couldn't find any scientific studies upholding the efficacy of the herb. At that exact moment I was looking at huge list of studies regarding the various positive effects of Milk Thistle. I, too, had "googled" Milk Thistle. What's going on here? The doctor instead concentrated on a study which "proved" that Milk Thistle did not have a positive effect on diabetes. The only problem with that is we have seen other studies which show the opposite. [See: Herbal Support for Diabetes] What's going on here? What a shame if someone hears the doctor's careless words and disregards the long-known, well-studied and decidedly positive effects Milk Thistle has on the liver. I think what's going on here is this: the TV doctor is of the "We gotta find a pill to cure this and you gotta get the pill from ME!" mentality. He doesn't even comprehend the concept of herbal support for a holistic approach to wellness. He makes his money from disease, not wellness. We, on the other hand, care not what his studies say about the effects of one particular chemical constituent or single herb on "disease." We know it just doesn't work that way. I think what I learned today is that I've got to quit watching the TV doctor. It isn't good for my blood pressure. -Jeff
Aromatherapy News Word comes today of an article by Shellie Enteen, South Carolina Director of NAHA (National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy) at MassageToday.com. The article, on aromatherapy safety, underscores the educational mission of NAHA and the importance of NAHA in furthering this mission over the years. Ten years ago, NAHA held its first International Aromatherapy Conference and Trade Show in San Francisco. Cheryl's Herbs was a vendor at that trade show, a big leap for us at that time. Jeff took part in a panel discussion presentation on the business of aromatherapy and Cheryl was presented to the membership as its first internationally elected president. We are pleased to see the organization prospers still and the mission endures. Kudos to Shellie and to NAHA!

Benefits attributed to chlorogenic acid include antimutagenic (anti-cancer), antimicrobial, anti-LDL (bad cholesterol) and antiviral activities. Summer Suggestions: Our cooling, refreshing Catnip Summer Spray is a big hit these days. Did you know that studies have shown Catnip Essential Oil to be 10 times stronger than DEET in repelling mosquitoes? Read Jeff's Article, Catnip as Mosquito Repellent. To keep cool this summer, Jeff prefers drinking a chilled tea of Peppermint and Guarana. He has also noted that if he drinks lots of Peppermint tea that bugs tend to avoid him. MS Fundraiser Our National Multiple Sclerosis Society Fundraiser held on May 21 was a big hit. Nearly $500 was raised for the National MS Society. It
was easy to catch the spirit of the passion of the Curesaders
at the event. Last year 186 walkers raised $586,000 for MS research and services
for those in need. Each walker must raise a minimum of $1500 to be eligible to
participate in the 50 mile, 3 day Challenge Walk for MS. This group of walkers
organized into a group, called themselves the Curesaders, to help each other in
a group effort raise enough money to ensure that all would be eligible to
participate in the walk. Marypat Ehlmann was the winner of the deluxe herb basket raffle prize worth over $100. Congratulations! Yes there were door prizes given away every half hour, culminating in the drawing for the grand prize, free massages by Tracy Campbell, individual aromatherapy sessions with Cheryl and magnetic rollouts by Cheryl's mom, however, the single most popular spot all day was near the food table which was blazing with every imaginable color. Cheryl is always encouraging customers to eat more vegetables to assist them reach their health goals. A variety of bright deeply, colored vegetables and fruits are the best for maintaining good health and the refreshment table was a good example of that kind of variety. The fruits & vegetables were purchased from the Maplewood Farmers Market and the Natural Way in Webster. There was also whole wheat crackers with hummus and salmon salad, baked potato chips and yogurt dip. For
desert there was pumpkin bread made from organic pumpkin grown at Red Sage Farm
(owned by Jeff & Cheryl's daughter and son-in-law) and chocolate chip treats
made by Patti Rosenkranz and very chocolate brownies made by Lucy
Schroeder.
Jeff is always reminding Cheryl that chocolate is healthy too!
Thanks to all who attended!
